How long have you been on the island?
I moved to Ibiza in August 1995 and I’ve been living on the island since. I’ve been working with the Ibiza Balance team for six years now.
What’s your speciality?
Deep tissue massages.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Helping people. It’s the best thing when a client gets off the table with a smile on their face.
What are your qualifications?
I studied Swedish body relaxation massage in London. And I’ve taken courses with Anika to hone my expertise in therapeutic deep tissue massage and stomach massage.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Ibiza Balance is so well organised with really high standards. The team is great and inspiring.
How would you describe the Ibiza Balance client?
Ibiza Balance clients know what they want, so I always experience good moments with them. There are a lot of clients which over the years keep coming back and for a therapist it’s really interesting to work with clients over longer periods.
What do you love about the island?
Its beauty and its variety – one day it’s an early morning, energising swim in aguas blancas, the next day, it’s a crazy afternoon party on a beach. I also love to cook a lot and work in the garden.
How do you maintain your own personal balance?
For me, personal balance includes sport, having a good diet (every morning warm lemon juice on empty stomach, followed by porridge only with water, then a couple of cups of green tea). Although I do also love my chocolate… What do you see in Ibiza’s future?
Ibiza has changed lot since I arrived. Over the past three years the island has got much more busy, but it is still possible to find your peace here.
Passion: deep tissue massage
Mission: to make a real difference to clients through massage
Belief: balance includes exercise, diet and chocolate!
Style: skilled, strong masseuse
Character: trained in excellence
Cupping is well known as pain relief and as a combination with other treatments such as Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue Massage, Lymphatic Drainage, Sports Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Detoxification Massage, Anti-Cellulite Treatments or General Wellbeing.
The effect of Cupping
-The vacuum formed by Cupping draws up the old non-circulating stagnant blood and sticky fluids from the area, bringing them up to the surface and away from the injury, so that healthy free circulation can be restored to the affected area, thus creating space for oxygen, living cells and nutrients for faster recovery.
-Where there is dead, static blood, lymph, cellular debris, pathogenic factors, and toxins present in the body, Cupping can leave marks which indicates that the stagnation or disease has been moved from the deeper tissue layers to the surface.
-A vacuum is created within the cup to draw the skin and underlying tissue into the cup. The produced vacuum creates a suction effect that increases blood and lymphatic circulation systemically and to the local area, relaxes muscle tissue and support, draws stagnation, pathogenic factors and toxins out of the body and releases a myriad of pain causing factors.
Forms of Cupping
- Facial Cupping
- Wellbeing Cupping
- Pedi Cupping
- Orthopedical Cupping
- Abdominal Cupping
- Thai Massage Cupping
- Sports Massage Cupping
- Sinusitis and Jaw
- Detoxification Cupping
- Lymphatic Drainage Cupping
- Triggerpoint Massage Cupping
- Myofascial Cupping
Is the combination of massage movements and negative pressure with the use of a suction device on the skin. A cup is positioned at the area to be treated and, depending on the type of cups being used. The intended suction can range from light to heavy. This, along with the movements performed and areas treated by the therapist will produce stimulating (toning) or sedating (draining) effects.
Bruises after Cupping
The most common misunderstanding regarding one of the most powerful and beneficial after effects of Cupping, is the marks that sometimes result. When injuries occur deep in the muscle, bleeding often occurs causing deep bruises. There will also be edema in the area involving the coagulation of sticky proteins. The combining presence of these elements usually results in stagnation of circulation to the area – resulting in pain, dysfunction, and chronic conditions.
Once you understand what these marks are, and feel the results – the concerns disappear!

What’s your main role as Ibiza Balance Spa Concierge?
Mostly I coordinate between our clients and therapists. I try to find the best fit between the client’s needs and the therapist’s qualifications and experience. I also take care of all the administration for the company.
How long have you been on the island?
I’ve lived here since 2012 – this is my second year working with Ibiza Balance.
What do you like most about your work?
The people and their energy – Ibiza Balance has such a lovely team. They’re amazing people but pure professionals at the same time, so I 100% believe in our service – I’m always sure that new and returning clients will be completely satisfied, and that I will always get positive feedback. It’s a wonderful feeling that really makes me love my job.
What qualifications do you have?
By profession I’m a master of pharmaceutical engineering and at our new base – Med Spa Ibiza in Marina Botafoch – I really have the chance to use my knowledge to improve the service, which I’m very grateful for.
What do you think sets Ibiza Balance apart from the rest?
As I already mentioned, it’s the people, including the clients and therapists, who really make a difference – we have so much confidence in each other. Furthermore, I see Ibiza Balance as one of the most professional companies on the island, without any doubt. We aim to have consistency in everything we do but also to challenge ourselves with new plans and projects.
Do you enjoy interacting with clients?
My experience with the clients has been really nice. Most of them are here on vacation, so they’re looking for treatments to relax and recover themselves, and it’s a great feeling for me to be able to fulfil their needs and help them refresh their energy.
What’s your favourite thing about the island?
Watching sunsets and taking long walks in search of new areas and secret beaches.
How do you maintain calm with a chaotic summer schedule?
In order to balance I usually distance and make a moment for myself. Then I use that moment to do yoga, read a book, take a walk – something that allows me to be left with my own thoughts.
How do you see the island changing in 2016?
I see Ibiza developing rapidly, with the possibility for longer season becoming more likely. Every year more and more people decide to stay and enjoy quiet winter time, so let’s see. Anything is possible on this island.
Passion: ensuring client satisfaction
Mission: to deliver the best possible service for Ibiza Balance clients
Belief: you can find calm in the quiet
Style: seamless service with a smile
Character: calm, collected and ready for anything
About wellbeing in Ibiza: Interview Anika Hölting, Founder Ibiza Balance
After years working as a physiotherapist and wellbeing expert in hotels, spas and cruise liners, and further years spending travelling and studying in different countries, Anika was looking for a place that would combine a healthy lifestyle and the sunshine of the south. She fell in love with the island, the people and its energy and came to Ibiza in 2003.
Why do you think Ibiza is such a draw for health and wellness?
Ibiza is becoming a heaven for international jet-setters who lead fast-paced lives, travel all around the globe and work hard, seven days a week, for the majority of the year. And of course, that’s because the island is the ultimate place to let off steam, to eat well and to party, but it’s also because it’s now considered the perfect destination for rest, relaxation, and kickstarting a fitness. So whether you’re looking for a week of complete and utter blissed-out indulgence, or you’re looking to detox, iron out niggling body issues or start on the path to fitness, the island is the place to do it, and the team at Ibiza Balance are the people you need to call to help make it happen.
How do you stay on the cutting edge of treatments?
Much of my training took place in Europe and Asia. I’m constantly on the lookout for the most up-to-date developments and frequently attending seminars and workshops to further my knowledge of medical and lifestyle treatments. My current focus is in the areas of osteopathy, yoga and medical spa treatments.
Do you experience very high expectations from visitors to the villas for villa packages?
Yes of course, clients renting a villa and spending their most important time oft he year, holiday with family and friends, want to make sure, that all is perfectly arranged and taken care of.

What treatments are you especially excited about?
Highly recommended is the Ibiza Balance signature massage, combining eastern and western techniques adapted to your needs.
What are some common concerns or questions you get from clients?
Most bookings, especially for villas, are massages for group of friends and family or couples, at sunset or morning times who want to enjoy the villa and just relax. To be time-efficient our Spa concierge organises several therapists who work parallel for groups.
What are the most popular treatments?

We develop a personalised wellbeing plan from personal training and yoga exercises to medical services and detox programs.

What is a typical day like for you in the high season vs. the low season?
In high season our day starts quiet early, at 8h morning latest. Our trainers and therapists are already on the way to villas and boats, as clients like to be finished with health and wellbeing programs till midday, so they have time to enjoy the beach or seaside programs. Usually the morning and evening times after the beach and before dinner are very busy and highly demanded, too. Many clients already book weeks in advance to make sure they needs are taken care of.
In low season I enjoy island-health offers such as pilates and yoga retreats in different venues, having my juice or raw food breakfast at healthy restaurants
Can you tell us a few of your favourite spots on the island, for food, drink, shopping relaxing?
I like „Passion Cafe“ or „Wild Beets“ for healthy food, wellbeing and drinks for breakfast and lunch. Fish Restaurants such es Sa Caletta or Sushi at Harbour Club. Shopping in Ibiza’s small streets for individuals.
What do you do to stay healthy?
Living healthy is a big part of my life. I do my daily workouts, mostly early in the moring starting around 7am with one hour condition training such as cicling or running. Parallel im practicing yoga and pilates. We have every morning cold-pressed juices in the house. For my wellbeing & relaxation I do every week a 90minutes massage such as deep tissue with the Ibiza Balance Team. Once a month I receive a ®, Vitamindrip® for the immune system and HydraFacial for a healthy looking skin.
